His translations of poetry in English have seldom, if at all, been compared with his original, creative writings. Such a study can redefine the notion of creativity involved in translating poetry, and writing poetry in the same language.

New creative contexts require new critical accents which should balance the modern with the indigenous. The present project is conceived as a part of this quest for a usable past in terms of aesthetic categories. The volume is intended to make a rich contribution to the re of Indian poetry and more than that to the most enriching and fast-growing discipline of translation studies
